The PGI has adopted a policy banning private use of motorized vehicles at
convention sites. The Board grants exemptions for carts and gators used by
PGI volunteer staff, or where members have received prior approval for medical
reasons through Fire / Medical.
The following policy is effective as of the publication of this Bulletin, and
will apply to our 2009 convention in Mason City, IA.
1) The Board will approve the number and type of vehicles allotted to
each Chairman or individual. If your name is not on this approved list,
you will not receive a cart. Each person obtaining use of a PGI rented
vehicle will take personal and financial responsibility for the vehicle by
providing a valid credit card, and signing the appropriate 'Release of
Liability' form.
2) Bruce Locke, our Infrastructure Chair, has agreed to manage the cart
assignments. Each approved PGI volunteer must sign the release form, and
return the cart in clean, good working condition to the Loafing Shed on or
before 8:00 a.m. Saturday August 15, 2009. Your cart will be provided with
a placard allowing you to operate the cart on the PGI convention site. This
placard must be prominently displayed at all times.
3) If you have a medical condition, or some personal situation you feel
requires you to have use of a golf cart or similar vehicle at the convention,
you must apply to Glenn Johnson, Fire-Medical Chief, for permission. Glenn will
keep your information confidential and issue you a 'Medical Needs Certificate'.
This applies to both rented vehicles, and vehicles you plan to bring yourself
such as golf carts.
After receiving approval from Fire / Med., contact Skip Miller of Miller
Carts at 641-843-4132, to reserve a cart with your credit card. Please
note, you must rent your own vehicle. Your cart will be delivered to the
convention site by Friday August 7. You will still be required to show
your approved certificate to Bruce to obtain your cart, and please reserve ahead
if possible, spare carts will not be available on site.
4) Every person operating a private motorized vehicle on the convention site
must register with Bruce Locke. If challenged by Safety or Security, you must
have your sticker/placard in place and show, if appropriate, your medical
exemption letter from Glenn Johnson. If you are allowed to use a cart for a
medical exemption, use of the cart by persons other than the one who was issued
the exemption letter is not permitted. Misuse of carts by anyone will be
grounds for revocation of permission to use the cart and/or more significant
penalties such as the Board may approve.
5) No one under 18 may operate a motorized vehicle on the PGI convention
grounds unless specifically exempted by the Board (e.g. to help a disabled
parent, etc.).
6) This policy does not apply to vehicles operated by venue employees and
staff.
